This Week in Honors
Hey Honors Scholars! This week we ring in the National First Generation College Celebration on November 8th. Did you know almost 1 in 4 undergraduate students at the University of Arkansas are first-gen students? Nayeli Ortiz, honors alumna and first-generation college student, dedicated her thesis to creating an immersive marketing strategy aimed at encouraging more first-gen students to study abroad. Learn more about her research here.

Lunch and Learn: Entrepreneurship Microcertificate
Enjoy lunch as you learn about our new Undergraduate Microcertificate in Entrepreneurship. This program is the perfect launchpad for students, even if their business ideas are in their infancy. No prior business experience is required! All majors are eligible!
Drop in between 12 and 1:00 to grab some Jimmy John’s, chat with other first-generation students, and meet Honors staff who can answer your questions or direct you to resources!
For this event we take up Tricia Hersey's work on rest as an act of resistance modeled through the ongoing intervention, the Nap Ministry. Through Hersey's invitation to nap, we disrupt expected modes of production and learn to reclaim our bodies as sites of liberation and imagination. Join us for a group nap followed by journaling and discussion. Light snacks will be provided.
This session of Honors College “Pulse” discusses the background and the potential implications of the latest Israel-Hamas War. Led by experts Joel Gordon (MEST/HIST) and Ted Swedenburg (MEST/HIST, emeritus), both of whom have spent extensive time in the Middle East and have written about and taught the conflict here in the U.S. and abroad.
Co-Sponsored by the Fulbright College International Studies Program.
This Honors College Pulse discussion series began in 2016 following the presidential election, and was named in remembrance of victims of the Pulse nightclub shootings. Since then, it has featured conversations around the Dakota Access Pipeline Project, the legal ramifications and decisions related to hate crimes, ways to fight local hunger and poverty as well as the war in Ukraine.
Futures Hub staff are coming to Hotz Hall! We’ll be set up across from the music room on Thursdays from 9 – 10 am. Stop by to chat, ask questions or grab coffee and a snack.
