policies and resources that improve access to lung cancer screenings, funding
for research, and support for those diagnosed with the disease, contributing

empathetic environment. By pursuing these objectives, the American Lung

Purpose: Provide structured but casual fellowship and ministry for past, present, and prospective Camp War Eagle summer staff and campers while recruiting University of Arkansas students for a summer of service at Camp War Eagle, and also for the year round follow up ministry that consists of After School tutoring, mentoring, and ministering to the needs of Camp War Eagle campers. Besides providing the most INCREDIBLE summer camp experience, Camp War Eagle takes pride in their local partnerships and year around programs. By having these local year around programs the University of Arkansas staff have a unique opportunity that no other Camp War Eagle staff has. SOAR is our After School Program that serves underprivileged elementary aged youth in the Northwest Arkansas area. SOAR currently has three school partnerships and is always looking for workers or volunteers! Ozone is the second year around branch that Camp War Eagle has. Ozone is a weekly gathering that happens in all the four major cities(Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville) to provide community and accountability for students ranging from elementary aged to high school aged. Here they come, engage, play games, hear a lesson, then discuss that lesson within their set small groups. Ozone provides an outlet for previous camp kids to stay connected and serve their community until camp again! Chemistry Boots on the Ground bridges the gap between university laboratories and the local community by connecting graduate chemists with area schools. Through interactive chemistry demonstrations for elementary and middle school students and sustained mentorship and tutoring for high school students, the organization seeks to expand access to science, strengthen scientific literacy, and give graduate students a direct avenue for meaningful community service. *Note, this organization is specifically tailored to graduate students, though undergraduates may participate as appropriate.

At the same time, local K–12 students may have limited opportunities to interact directly with practicing scientists or experience chemistry outside of a traditional classroom setting. Chemistry Boots on the Ground seeks to reduce this gap by creating a structured avenue through which graduate chemistry students can bring their knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience directly into local schools.
Early exposure to engaging, hands-on science can help make chemistry more approachable and can provide students with a clearer picture of what scientists actually do. For older students, sustained interaction with graduate mentors can provide additional academic support while also exposing them to college, research, and STEM career pathways.
