The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, commonly known as FERPA, is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of student education records. With few exceptions, all student education records are considered confidential and may not be released without written consent of the student. This protection for college education records begins when the student enrolls in a higher education institution, regardless of the student’s age.
Along with the rest of the univeristy, the Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Center is dedicated to complying with FERPA and its protections.
If a parent or familiy member would like to discuss a student's benefits, financial record, or class schedule with one of our staff members, the student will need to complete the 3rd party release in Workday Student. This written consent must occur even if the student is present and gives verbal approval.
In Spring 2025, the university began the migration from UA Connect to the new platform for student records, Workday Student. Below you will find links to reference guides that will walk you through granting permissions to parents/family members:

You must grant both Academic current class schedule and Financial aid package/account activity permissions. In the box on the consent form, please also indicate permission granted to speak to VMSC staff.
If you have questions about these consent forms, please reach out to us at vmsc@uark.edu.
