The lecture is part of the school’s selection for the national Handwork 2026 artist residency, a year-long collaboration among organizations, educators, and makers celebrating American craft. The program is in partnership with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the school was selected for its high-caliber research, craft, and facilities. Through this support, the School of Art will host a visiting artist for both a public lecture and a residency.
We’re excited to welcome Carla Edwards as our Handwork resident. During this visit, she will present a public lecture and return later in the year for a residency to create work at the school. Carla is a nationally and internationally exhibited artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, and public art, exploring material, labor, and systems of meaning through a conceptual and socially engaged lens.
The lecture is free and open to the public, with free parking available behind the Studio + Design Center.
