Welcome Maple South Residents!

I hope you are getting settled in and enjoying your new home! My name is Kaylianne Weber and I am the Coordinator for Residence Education (CRE) for Maple Hill South. I will work alongside 10 Resident Assistants (RAs), 3 Institutional Service Assistants (ISAs), and a hall administrative assistant to make your experience here in Maple South fun, welcoming, and safe!

Please see below for a list of RA names and locations.

Community RAs:

  • 1st Floor: Chris
  • 2nd East (202-225): Alex
  • 2nd West (227-250): Matt
  • 3rd East (302-325): Gracie
  • 3rd West (327-350): Hayden
  • 4th East (401-424): Mara
  • 4th West (426-449): Jackson

Neighborhood RAs:

  • Hayden, Leadership RA, 3rd Floor
  • MG, Marketing RA, 2nd Floor

Senior Resident Assistant: Aya, 4th Floor

If they have not already, your RA should be adding you to a floor GroupMe for important floor updates and info.

On August 20, every resident will attend a mandatory floor meeting. Flyers will be posted on your hall and in the GroupMe with times and locations. Before this meeting, I am passing along important information to set you up for success in our community. Please read the following information carefully and thoroughly!

Community Standards:

Community standards are important to always follow. Actions and behaviors of all of us can impact the safety and comfort of everyone on your floor and in your community.

Our team of housing staff completes nightly rounds of the community to ensure that policies are upheld, and that the community is safe. As policy violations are recognized by our staff, they are documented and reported to the proper authorities to ensure accountability. Many cases will be handled between myself, other professional housing staff, the Office of Student Accountability, and sometimes the University of Arkansas Police Department. Please utilize the links below to learn more about your community standards.

Any form of harassment/discrimination will not be tolerated. All incidents of harassment/discrimination will be reported to the Office of Title IX. This is your home, and you should feel safe here.

We strive to ensure that Maple South is a conducive learning environment. All violations will be handled appropriately. Maple South is a great home for me, and I want to be a great home for you this year!

  • Visitation: Hall visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 24 hours a day during Friday and Saturday.
    • Discuss guest expectations with your roommate. You are responsible for the actions of your guest(s).
  • Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are defined as unreasonable loud noise, defined as sound which can be heard either two doors away or more than twenty-five (25) feet from the door, coming from a student's room. These are as follows:

Sunday-Thursday: 10pm-8am

Friday & Saturday: Midnight-10am

Courtesy hours are in effect 24/7, meaning volume should be kept at a level that is courteous to others.

  • Alcohol: No alcohol or alcohol bottles are allowed if you are under 21. If over 21, students may drink alcohol behind closed doors, but not with those under 21.
  • Smoking: This is a smoke-free/tobacco-free campus. Pay attention to where you can smoke, UAPD will issue citations for this. Due to Arkansas state law, residents under 21 may not have tobacco products, including vapes!
  • Marijuana: Recreational and medical use and possession of marijuana is not allowed on campus or in the residence halls. Pay attention to these guidelines in the Code of Student Life and if you have a medical use condition, take note of where you can utilize it.
  • Windows: Do not remove the window screen as this is very dangerous. Sanctions include reassignment and possible removal from Housing if policy is violated. You also cannot cover windows with flags/ signs/ etc.
  • Smoke Detector/Sprinklers- These are important safety devices. Do not obscure, block, or hang items on them. Sprinkler damage can result in gallons of water being dumped inside the building, which can cause significant damage. Wall air vents should not be blocked either,
  • Fire safety: Candles, air fryers, toasters/toaster ovens, hot plates, and “George Foreman” type grills are not permitted in the halls.
  • It is also important to note that no pets (except for small, harmless fish) are prohibited, and that door decorations must not cover more than 50% of your door.

Maintenance Requests:

We want to make sure all students know how to submit work requests for anything that may not be working like it should (FixIt Ticket) and computer/Technology Ticket (ResNet Ticket)

  • To submit a FixIt Ticket visit https://housing.uark.edu/services/index.php
  • To submit a ResNet Ticket visit https://housing.uark.edu/services/resnet.php.

Upcoming Events:

  • HogSpots: This is the spot on the floor near our desk where you can meet other students going to other A Week Events. This is also a location where you may reference in the future with other students to meet with them.
  • A-Week is a great way to get connected to your new home and make friends. Your RAs will be taking you to events throughout the week so you can familiarize yourself with your community and campus! You can access the complete list of events here: https://aweek.uark.edu/
  • HogSync is a great resource to access upcoming events on campus. You all should be members of the Maple Hill Community HogSync page. Here you will find events specific to our building, including upcoming events with me!

Resources:

  • SafeZone is a campus-sponsored app supported by UAPD. On this app, you can check in, which will send your location to UAPD (only while checked in.) You can also Call UAPD and report an emergency on this app.
    • Campus is equipped with 135 emergency phone poles that automatically connect to UAPD in case of an emergency.
    • If you are walking across campus and would like police escort, Text the UA Police Department at 479-249-2796. This operates Sunday-Thursday, 6:00pm-12:30am. For escorts provided at other times by police officers- text UAPD at 479-575-2222.

Scan the QR code and get connected. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, the number to call is on the back of your student ID.

University Housing is an inclusive community for all residents. Actions contrary to the goal of creating a safe environment for all will not be tolerated.

I know this was a lot of information, but this is all vital for success and safety in our community. I want you to love this building as much as I do!
