Dear HORT Club Members. 

It is my hope you are finishing the semester strong and doing well on your final exams.  The holidays and a break are just around the corner. 

As we enter the new year 2024 and the Spring Semester, I invite you to consider adding to your schedule the course HORT 402V(1) Horticulture Judging and Competition Activity.   This 1-credit course will be scheduled to meet the first 8-week session of the Spring 2024 semester.

The class prepare students to participate in the annual student judging competitions of the Southern Region of the American Society for Horticultural Sciences.  The two primary competitions are 1) Plant Identification (woody plants, and herbaceous plants), and 2) Vegetable and Fruit Commodity Judging.  

I am recruiting YOU as a potential team member an student in this class.   

We would meet at the consensus time of convenience for the first two weeks of the Spring Semester.  The competition this year is February 1- 4  (3rd week of school - excused absence) in Atlanta, GA at the Annual Conference of the Southern Region of the American Society for Horticultural Science.  Students selected to compete on the HORT Team will have financial support to attend the competition and professional meetings.  

If 4 or more of you are willing, I would move this course to the January Intersession, January 2-12, to avoid class conflicts or stress, and to give you more time to prepare for the competitions.  If you are interested in enrolling in a January 2024 Intersession course (Jan2-Jan12), please reply directly to me by email  Dr. Curt R Rom (crom@uark.edu) no later than Wednesday December 13
