Beyond Grad School

The “Beyond Grad School” event will facilitate intellectual engagement by connecting University of Arkansas students with alumni and professionals who have successfully transitioned from graduate education into careers in industry, government, and other professional settings. Through presentations, a moderated discussion, and an open question-and-answer session, speakers will share practical insights about career pathways, transferable skills, job searching, interviewing, networking, and adapting academic training to the workplace. Students will be encouraged to compare different career options, reflect on their own professional goals, and ask questions that may not normally be addressed in their coursework or research groups.

Although the event is organized by the Electrochemical Society Student Chapter, it will be open to graduate and undergraduate students from chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, and other related disciplines. By inviting participation from multiple departments and student organizations, the program will create opportunities for students with shared interests to exchange ideas, form professional connections, and identify possibilities for future collaboration. The event will also strengthen relationships between current students and University of Arkansas alumni, helping build a more connected and supportive campus community that extends beyond individual departments and continues after graduation.
